The Patton Park parking lot near Weaver Pond is now closed as site work gets underway for the new swimming pool.

The work is the start of the parking lot construction project for the pool, according to Hamilton-Wenham Recreation Director Sean Timmons.

There will be five trees removed and two openings will be created in the wall from Bay Road (Route 1A) – a northerly opening for the pool parking lot entrance and a southerly opening for the parking lot exit, according to Hamilton DPW Director Bill Redford.

A siltation barrier will also be installed between the parking lot and the pond, topsoil will be stripped and the parking lot will be regraded.

Gravel fill will also be brought in and placed for the exit before the “binder course” for bituminous pavement in put down and a berm is installed.

Curbing will be removed at the new entrance and exit and existing curbing and milepost markers will be re-set to create pedestrian access, Redford said.

The parking lot closure is expected to last into early September and is dependent on the weather, Redford said.
