Noise Bylaw Changes to be Considered by Hamilton Selectmen

Changes to the town’s noise bylaw will be proposed when the Hamilton Board of Selectmen meet on Monday night at Hamilton Town Hall. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Room.

Police Chief Russell Stevens will present the proposed changes. The Police Department is in charge of enforcing the noise ordinance.

The new bylaw proposes to make it illegal to make noise that is plainly audible 150 feet away from the source. It also bars excessively sounding a horn. There are exemptions for parades, church bells and snow removal, among other items.

It includes a $100 fine for the first infraction and goes up by $100 for each subsequent violation.

A complete draft copy of the proposed new noise bylaw can be found here.
