Police Chief Issues Reminder About Safe Driving in the Rain

There have been no serious storm-related problems in Hamilton as of 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

rainPolice Chief Russell Stevens said there is a tree leaning on some utility wires on Highland Street, but is not preventing vehicles from passing.

In addition, an urban and small stream flood warning is in effect for Hamilton until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday because of a band of heavy rain that was moving through the area. It could mean 1-2 inches of rain, which could flood roads, according to the National Weather Service. Do not drive through flooded roads.

Because of the heavy rain and wind, Stevens offers some safe driving tips:

  • Use caution while driving
  • Remember that excess water on the roads may cause hydroplaning conditions
  • Massachusetts law requires that vehicles lights must be on when the wipers are on
