A safe zone for Internet transactions, known as a “trade zone,” has been established in the parking lot in front of the Hamilton police station, Police Chief Russ Stevens announced this week.
Stevens said the new program is aimed at providing a safe and secure meeting place for members of the community to conduct and complete online transactions from websites such as Craig’s List and Facebook.
“There can be a lot of unease created over conducting an online transaction. Our hope is to provide a safe public meeting area that community members can conduct their transactions,” Stevens said. “The designated ‘trade zone’ area in front of the police station is properly marked, lit and video recorded so people can feel safe.”
Stevens said anyone who engages in an online transaction should utilize safe areas such as the one at the Hamilton Police Department, 265 Bay Road, which is staffed 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
