Hamilton First Responders All Trained, Now Carrying Overdose-Reversing Drug Narcan

Anal_Heroin.jpgThe Hamilton Fire and Police departments are now both carrying Narcan in response to the state’s opiate overdose epidemic.  Narcan is a prescription drug that blocks the effect of opioids and reverses an overdose.

EMS Coordinator David Raymond, a Hamilton firefighter, has trained all of the town’s firefighters and police officers about how to use Narcan and has set up an agreement with Beverly Hospital, according to Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens.

Narcan was used on Tuesday night, Feb. 9, to save an overdose victim in Hamilton, according to Stevens. Essex first responders were the first on scene and administered the drug.
