Strong Winds Take Down Trees, Lines

A tree down on utility wires on Meyer Road on Thursday afternoon.

Hamilton firefighters on Thursday, March 31, responded to calls for a tree down on Essex Street and a tree and wires down at 128 Meyer Road caused by strong winds, according to Fire Chief Phil Stevens.

Winds are forecasted to pick up again on Friday, and Stevens urges caution and reminds residents to stay away from downed power lines, which should always be considered live.

Between 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, DPW Director Bill Redford said crews handled calls for trees down on Annies Lane, Cutler Road and Essex Street. After 6 p.m., the winds calmed down, Redford said.

He has his eye on the weather forecast for Monday night and Tuesday morning, when unseasonably cold weather and some precipitation is possible.
