phone-449836_960_720 (1)Hamilton police are issuing a warning to residents and business owners about a new phone scam where callers pose as National Grid employees.

A Hamilton business owner contacted Hamilton police on Monday, March 28 reporting that a man who said he was from National Grid said the business owned money for its gas bill, according to Hamilton police Sgt. Stephen Trepanier. The call came from 888-840-9880.

The caller said if the business did not pay the bill the gas would be shut off.

Trepanier said the call was part of a new phone scam that uses a computerized system that is similar to the one used by National Grid. Attempted phone scams continue and Hamilton police are issuing another reminder to be suspicious whenever a business or caller contacts you asking for cash or to immediately wire money.
