There is an open seat on the three-member Hamilton Board of Health and the search continues for candidates to fill the position.
Board of Health members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen to a three-year term. The board meets once a month.
The board has been without a third member for about 18 months, according to Nancy Stevens, administrative assistant to the Hamilton Board of Health.
Responsibilities for the board include protecting groundwater from contamination, protecting private and public water supplies, ensuring dwellings are fit for human habitation, preventing epidemics and the spread of disease through measures such as vaccinations and quarantine, protecting against environmental hazards, inspecting food establishments, recreational camps and public swimming pools, enforcing Department of Environmental Protection regulations on the disposal of wastewater (Title 5), enforcing EPA/DEP regulations on preventing pollution from air, water, solid waste and toxic wastes and enforcing regulations to control noise pollution.
