Casella Waste Systems has agreed to pick up trash in Hamilton on Friday and Saturday as town leaders work to negotiate a long-term contract with the company.
Both Hamilton and Wenham have reached a tentative agreement with Casella for municipal trash, recycling and compost pick up and are in the process of negotiating a final contract. Until the contract is signed, Casella has agreed to pick up trash and compost on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept. 3 in Hamilton, according to Town Manager Michael Lombardo.
Hamilton town leaders were left scrambling after Hiltz Disposal announced on Wednesday that the company was immediately halting trash pickup in town.
Residents who have not had trash pickup this week should make sure blue trash bags are out by 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. If blue bags are not picked up Friday, residents should make sure the bags are back out by 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.
Because it is an emergency situation, organic waste will not be composted this week but green bins should be out and will be collected. Residents are asked to withhold recycling until next week’s regular pickup because Casella is not able to pick up the recycling in the emergency timeframe.
Casella will not be running a regular route on Friday and Saturday because of the immediacy of the arrangement and all residents that haven’t has pickup this week are asked to make sure their bags are out on Friday morning. Also, do not put out bulky items for pickup this week.
