Water Pressure Expected to Return Late Saturday Night, Early Sunday Morning

water-splashWater pressure will likely be restored by midnight or 1 a.m. on Sunday in Hamilton, according to Town Manager Michael Lombardo.

Repairs were almost complete, as of 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, after a water main break earlier in the day on Bridge Street.

Once repairs are complete, the water plant will need to be started up again, the reservoir tank will be filled and fire hydrants will have to be flushed.

The water main that broke was a 12 inch main that feeds the town water tank, Lombardo said.

“This was not your run of the mill water main break,” he said. Once the break was isolated, the town tank was nearly empty – and the tank needs to have water in it to pressurize the town water system.

When water pressure returns, town officials are asking residents to boil their tap water before consuming. The boil water order will remain in effect until further notice.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes is available.

  1. From the state Department of Environmental Protection about taking showers during a boil water order: “The risk of bathing in tap water is uncertain and so should be avoided particularly by people with open wounds or who are immunocompromised. For those people who choose to shower or bathe in the tap water, minimize the time spent in the water and be sure to keep your eyes and mouth closed. Babies and young children should not bathe or shower in tap water because they often swallow some water accidentally.” http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/massdep/water/drinking/boil-water-order-faq.html
