Power was restored and the road reopened on Highland Street on Tuesday morning after a tree limb sagged onto electric wires, causing the wires to fall and knock out power.
The wires caught fire and dropped onto the sidewalk along Highland Street, between Linden Street and Moynihan Road. Traffic was detoured around the area while repairs were made and a portion of the tree was removed, according to Hamilton police Lt. Scott Janes. Power was out in the area for a few hours while the tree and electric crews fixed the problem.
Hamilton fire crews stood by for about an hour until police details and the DPW could block the road, said Fire Chief Philip Stevens.
A tree company will return at a later date for more tree work.
