In addition to the black container, blue bags can be used for extra trash. One large item, such as a mattress or sofa, can be placed curbside each week.

The 2017 calendar shows holidays, when pickup is delayed by a day, plus e-waste collection days at the DPW yard and brush drop-off days at the Chebacco Road landfill. Additionally, it includes curbside leaf collection dates and the annual household hazardous waste collection day.

If your trash, organics, and recycling is not picked up on your scheduled day, contact Casella Waste Systems, the town’s trash contractor, at 978-548-4427.

Revised and Updated Trash Calendar Now Available

organicsA revised trash collection calendar has been released, covering the remainder of 2016.

The calendar has been revised after the town selected a new trash hauler, Casella, after the previous hauler, Hiltz Waste Management, ended its contract with the town.

The new calendar reflects a recent change to collect trash, recycling and organics weekly, with blue bags available for additional trash that does not fit in the town-issued black trash barrel.

It also includes a reminder that if your trash, recycling or organics aren’t collected to call Casella at 978-548-4427.

The upcoming holidays, when trash collection will be delayed by a day that week, include Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Electronics waste collection days, curbside leaf collection and brush drop off dates are all also included on the newly revised calendar, which is available on the town website.

Black Trash Barrels Now Collected Weekly, Blue Bag Price Going Up

organicsTrash, recycling and compost is now being collected on a weekly basis in Hamilton. The move comes after a vote this week by the Board of Selectmen to support moving from biweekly to weekly trash collection.

Residents may now use their black barrel each week to dispose of trash. The blue pay-as-you-throw bag price will also be going up to $2.50 per bag from $1 for a small bag and $1.75 for a large bag. The date of the price change has yet to be determined. The blue bags can still be used if trash doesn’t fit in the black barrel.

A sticker program will also be implemented for bulky items at a cost of $15 per item, with a limit of one item per week.

Town Manager Michael Lombardo said that with the new collection company, Casella Waste Systems, the cost of collection has gone up and bag revenue will also drop by about $40,000 because of the move to weekly collection.

Lombardo said it is still important for residents to remember that they should try to recycle and compost as much as they can.
