Primary Election Coming Up Tuesday; Prepare for Tight Parking, Party Ballots

Hamilton’s 5,609 registered voters will have their say on Super Tuesday to decide which candidate each political party will nominate for president.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at Winthrop Elementary School on Bay Road. Since school will be in session, parking “will be tough during the day,” according to Town Clerk Andrea Carlson. She said poll workers will be trying to make parking spaces in front of the school available.

There are 1,087 registered Republicans and 1,069 registered Democrats in Hamilton, according to Carlson. The other parties with registered voters in Hamilton include the United Independent Party with 21 voters and the Green-Rainbow Party with 3 voters. There are 3,412 unenrolled voters and a total of 5,609 registered voters in Hamilton.

Carlson reminds voters that if they are registered in a party they are required to take the ballot for that party and unenrolled voters can pick any ballot.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot if you cannot vote on Tuesday is noon on Monday, Feb. 29. Voters that want to vote absentee need to come into the Town Clerk’s office in Hamilton Town Hall before 12 noon on Monday and fill out an application, where they can absentee vote at that time.
