Voluntary Water Restrictions in Place, Daytime Mechanical Watering Prohibited

water-815475_1920Voluntary water restrictions are in place in Hamilton as the Hamilton Department of Public Works encourages public participation to help conserve water.

There continues to be filtration issues at the Hamilton water treatment plant with the increasing demand, according to Hamilton DPW Director Tim Olson. That has led to the implementation of voluntary water restrictions to help conserve water.

The possible need for mandatory water restrictions is scheduled to be discussed at the next Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, June 19 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial room at Hamilton Town Hall.

In addition to the voluntary water restriction, mechanical lawn watering is not allowed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. through Sept. 30, as is the case every year, according to the Hamilton Outdoor Water Use By-Law.

hamilton dpw truck closeupThe Hamilton Department of Public Works is looking for some seasonal employees for the summer.

The positions are for 12 weeks starting on May 15 and the pay is $12 per hour. The jobs will include typical seasonal DPW work, including maintenance of parks, cemeteries and municipal buildings.

All candidates need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. Employees will also have to pass a background check and drug screening.

Permitted Fire Spreads, Damages Shed

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA permitted fire got out of control on Sagamore Street on Friday afternoon, according to Fire Chief Philip Stevens.

The fire department responded to 175 Sagamore St. at about 2:30 p.m. In addition to Hamilton firefighters, Essex Engine 1 also helped battle the fire. Firefighters also got help from a Hamilton DPW backhoe. In addition to the brush, the fire also damaged a shed on the property, Stevens said.

Firefighters used water from the fire hydrant on Sagamore Street near Blueberry Lane, which may cause some brown water in the area.

Trask Pickup Delayed This Week Because of Holiday

Hamilton trash barrelAnother week and it is another delay for trash pickup in Hamilton. This time it is because of the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, Feb. 20

Trash, recycling and organics collection will be delayed by a day this week. Trash pickup will start on Thursday, Feb. 23 and run through Saturday, Feb. 25 in Hamilton.

If your usual pickup day is Wednesday it will instead be Thursday and pickup will be pushed back by a day for the rest of the week.

If your trash, organics, and recycling is not picked up on your scheduled day, contact Casella Waste Systems, the town’s trash contractor, at 978-548-4427. For any other questions or problems related to trash, recycling and organics, call the Hamilton Department of Public Works at 978-468-5580.

Town Seeks Plow Drivers With Their Own Equipment

snow-5The town of Hamilton is looking for plow drivers to plow for the town this winter. Interested candidates must have their own truck.

Makeup E-Waste Collection Day Scheduled for Wednesday

electronics-trashA makeup e-waste collection day has been scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The new e-waste collection day was scheduled after the regular event on Saturday was cancelled because of the snowstorm.

Electronics, appliances and cardboard will be collected for various fees at the Hamilton Department of Public Works yard behind Hamilton Town Hall on Bay Road. The e-waste collection days typically happen on the third Saturday of the month and after this Wednesday’s collection the next scheduled e-waste collection day will be on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Snowstorm Cancels Saturday’s E-Waste Collection Day

The next scheduled e-waste collection day will now be on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon. A full list of what is accepted and the associated fees is available on the town website.
